Sewer backup has to be the worst type of water damage there is. As you can imagine, all of the contaminants from this type of water damage could cause humans or animals to become sick if they are exposed. Sewer backups typically occur after a very heavy rainfall. The sewers in the city can fill up with water and then the water has nowhere else to go except back inside your home through the main sewer line.
