Another main cause of water damage is groundwater coming into your home through your sump pit. You can also install a sump pump that can be used to pump any excess groundwater away from your home.

Prevent Water Damage from Roof, Eaves trough or Windows

You should regularly check for any leaks around your doors and windows, especially around the corners. Look for paint that is peeling, which is a big sign that water is getting in the wood. Look for discolouration in the paint or caulking also, as well as swelling in the door frames and windows.

You should repair any type of roof damage that you have to prevent water damage. Replace any shingles around an area that allows water to get into the roof sheathing. Leaks are very common around attic vents and chimneys.
